Caitlin Clark, the reigning national player of the year, said it comes with the territory after an Ohio State fan inadvertently collided with her Sunday afternoon as Buckeyes fans stormed the court following the team’s 100-92 upset in overtime over No. 2 Iowa.
Videos shows a Ohio State fan running onto the court and running into Clark as she was running off the floor. Clark fell then was tended to by officiates.
Clark said she had the wind knocked out of her but admitted it was a “kind of scary.”
“It just comes with the territory,” Clark said after the game, per ESPN. “I’m sure they tried their best to do whatever they could, obviously it didn’t work and that’s disappointing. Just focused now on the game and ways we can get better.”
Clark, who scored 45 in the loss, said she already for an apology from Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith.
Cotie McMahon had a career-high 33 points and 12 rebounds as No. 18 Ohio State rallied to stun No. 2 Iowa 100-92 in OT.
The Buckeyes (15-3, 6-1) trailed as many as 12 points behind in regulation to tie the game at 83 and force the extra period. Clark scored all of Iowa’s nine overtime points. A 3-pointer from Rebeka Mikulasikova gave Ohio State a six-point lead with 1:14 left in overtime. McMahon’s basket and four late free throws from Jacy Sheldon sealed with win for the Buckeyes.
